We begin our morning enjoying a fresh cup of coffee at “El Café-tal Apan” coffee plantation (outside of Coatepec). During our one hour tour we see how coffee is grown and roasted. The plantation has a gift shop and museum of antiques to enjoy.
XICO
We then head off towards the waterfalls. We will walk down a ravine that is lined with a variety of orchids, coffee, citrus and banana trees. The path has a breath- taking lookout of the “Texolo” waterfall and the “Sierra Madres”. It is perfect to take photos.
“Texolo” waterfall has an amazing 250ft drop. It was filmed in movies such as “Romancing the Stone” (1984) and “Clear and Present Danger” (1994). We will also visit the 40 ft tall “Cascada de La Monja” (Nuns waterfall).
Our next stop is the little town of “Xico” with its charming cobblestone roads, colonial homes and a variety of small chapels.
We will visit the Parish of Saint Mary Magdalene and tour the Saint Mary Magdalene`s dress museum.
“Xico” town is famous for its unique seasonings, sauces, liquors, breads and fine regional cooking. We will enjoy a sampling of local made moles (sauces that are made of more than 30 ingredients) before dining in our favorite restaurant in town. After lunch, participants will have free time to walk around town, shop and take photos.
Coatepec
As we head back towards “Xalapa”, we will stop at the center of “Coatepec” also known as “Pueblo magico” (magic town). “Coatepec” is popular for its flavorful coffee and abundance of orchids. We will walk around the center to view the historic “Parque Miguel Hidalgo”, “San Jeronimo” Parish Church, City Hall and the popular “Plazuela El Zaguan” artisan alley.
